Poker

Typically, poker is played with a group of people around a circular table. Each player is dealt two cards and can either fold, bet, or check.

The goal of the game is to have the highest hand possible. The highest hand wins the pot. Players can win a hand by betting until all other players have dropped out.

Poker chips are generally made of plastic or ceramic. Chips can be exchanged for cash. To win, players use one of their cards from their hand. The cards are face up until a jack appears. If no one calls, the hand is declared a “showdown.”

A poker hand is a set of five cards of the same suit. If the hand contains an odd card, it is devalued. A royal flush is the highest hand. The hand comprises of a king, queen, jack, and ten in the same suit.

Three of a kind is considered a strong hand. Four of a kind is considered strong as well. A straight flush is five cards of the same suit in order. The straight flush starts with the highest value card.

Pair is two cards of equal rank. When comparing two pairs, the pair that has the highest odd card beats the pair that has the lower odd card.

In the case of a draw, the pot is divided equally among all players. A player may call or fold, or they can equal the previous bet or raise.
