Slot

A Slot is a hollow area of the throat, above the breastbone. It derives from the late 14c. word slot, from Old French esclot. The term slot also has Old Norse roots (slod). The modern meaning of the word dates from the 1880s, and its use in slot machines is dated back to 1888. Read on to learn about the origin and history of this fascinating game. And don’t worry if you’re not a natural gambler.

The slot is also the fourth position of a flying display. In hockey, it is the area between the faceoff circles in the offensive zone. The word “slot” can refer to two different areas of the rink, one of which is the low slot, directly in front of the goaltender. The high slot, on the other hand, is located in the center of the ice above the faceoff circles. This means that an offensive player may be in the slot during the game.
