Poker is a card game played between two or more players. Each player is dealt a full hand, and then they place bets for a round. Usually, only two players bet at a time, but sometimes players can raise. The game began in Persia and spread to Europe, eventually being adapted into the game we know today. The game probably originated as a version of the Spanish game primero, which was first played in the 17th century and was taken to the New World by French settlers.

Poker is based on probability calculations. Players draw five cards from a shuffled deck. The value of a hand depends on how likely it is that it will be a straight or a flush. The odds of getting each type of hand differ slightly from one another. However, the goal is the same: to create the best hand possible. A player can use one card from their hand and four cards from the table to make their hand. The player with the best hand wins the game.

Players in poker can also make forced bets. These bets are known as forced bets and come in three different forms: ante, blinds, and bring-ins.
