Poker

In the game of Poker, you begin with a hand of cards. Then, you have the opportunity to make a bet. You may call or check, depending on your decision. As long as you have the same card rank as the other players, you can make a bet. When you fold, you lose your chance to compete for the pot.

To win the pot, you must have the best hand. The best hand is known as “nuts.” A pair of trip sevens is the best hand possible at a given time. The next best hand is a pair of eights or nines. The last hand, or river, is a seven. The game continues in this manner until the winner is determined.

In limit games, players have a limited number of raises and bets. Normally, they can’t bet more than the amount of chips in the pot. If they do, they must put in the number of chips needed to call the previous bet. In addition, they can only raise if they have the same number of chips as the player before them.

Generally, players will have five cards. Each hand will have a different value. When two people have the same pair of five cards, the higher card wins. If two people have four of a kind, the high card breaks ties. If more people have high cards of the same suit, then they will split the pot.
